We’d love you to join in our monthly Sew-Along. This time our theme is “Freebies and Beanies, Baby!”
We have some exciting new Sew-Alongs planned for 2023. This year, we’re going to create through the categories, focusing each month’s topic on one segment of our overall catalog. We’ll have special discounts that you can vote on as a group as we progress through the year. We’re going to sew a lot of cute clothes together!
To kick things off, this month our theme is “January: Freebies and Beanies, Baby!” Your fun challenge is to have a good time with our free offerings. We have patterns to make a free beanie (a most adorable winter hat, but since the weather is different all over the world, it can be a summer hat, too, if sewn up in a lighter knit fabric), and a super useful sewing machine pin cushion which will come in handy if your New Year’s resolution is to sew lots of doll clothes. Have a blast! Make something you enjoy. Show us how creative you can get with something as simple as a hat or pin cushion, and share it with us.
The beanie pattern includes two sizes, one for 18-inch dolls and one for Cabbage Patch kids! Every doll garment made with one of Rosie’s patterns gets at least one entry. This month, if it’s a beanie or a pincushion, it gets two.
Join our Facebook Group
To participate in the Sew-Along, you must be a member of the Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns Sew and Share group. Joining is easy. Just point your browser here, answer the membership questions, and request to join. It’s a wonderful community of creative grown-ups who love to sew for dolls. Everyone will welcome you with open arms.
To be inclusive, absolutely anything and everything that you make with one of Rosie’s Doll Clothes Patterns can be entered in the Sew-Along for one chance to be chosen by the Spinning Wheel. Remember that there’s a video for every Rosie’s pattern, so watch, learn, sew along, and have fun sewing and sharing.
You can use the 18 inch American Girl Doll or Cabbage Patch Kid size patterns, or you can resize those patterns to fit any doll. If you wish to alter the pattern to add your own personal twist or add a special embellishment, please feel free. These personal touches create great inspiration for others!
There’s no obligation to sew every month. You can sew one outfit or a dozen. It’s totally up to you. Each item from a Rosie’s pattern that you sew and post in the album (see instructions below) will be worth at least one entry towards the wheel spin at the end of the month. If you sew to the challenge specifications, you get two entries towards the wheel spin.
All skill levels are welcome to join in the fun as there will be no judgement, only encouragement.
The winner of the December ’22 SewAlong Wheel Spin is Donna Angell, who submitted this adorable photo of her handmade doll wearing Rosie’s 50s Vintage Dress. The doll pattern is the Christmas Gingerbread Cookie Doll # 126 from Etsy seller cottonwoodcountry, and the vintage dress fit the doll without alteration.
If you stop by our Facebook group and look at the December Sew-Along album you can see the other wonderful dolls Donna made wearing their Rosie’s finery, as well as the creations from all our wonderful Rosie’s sewists.
